Applanix LiDAR QC Tools

Applanix LiDAR QC Tools are a set of POSPac software tools developed by Trimble to achieve the highest level of georeferencing accuracy using LiDAR sensors. Applanix LiDAR QC Tools supports boresight calibration between IMU and LiDAR sensors, trajectory correction and LAS file point cloud generation. Read the white paper.

Boresight calibration

Boresight calibration is an important part of LiDAR integration because any uncorrected misalignment between the IMU and LiDAR frame will result in a less accurate point cloud.

Applanix LiDAR QC Tools precisely estimate the boresight misalignment angles between an Applanix IMU and a synchronized LiDAR scanner. No ground reference is required.

Trajectory adjustment

Trajectory adjustment is the correction of the GNSS-INS derived position and orientation based upon mismatches of overlapping LiDAR points. The LiDAR sensor itself becomes an aiding sensor to the GNSS-INS solution. The adjusted trajectory is used to produce the final LiDAR point cloud and to georeference any other imaging sensors (such as cameras). It is extremely powerful in GNSS-denied areas (e.g. urban or foliage area) and when using inertial sensors of lower accuracy.
